GLP-1…. is the juice worth the squeeze?
Well, that’s a dicision only you can make. But, I’d like to give you some things to think about.
This is a super hot topic… and has been for a little while now. This can largely be due to seeing all these people who have lost a large amount of weight very quickly.
You see them everywhere.. the gym, work, sidelines of sporting events, school pick up, family functions, family of friends, and everywhere in between. Maybe you see someone who has lost a bunch of weight, but you don’t want to ask them about it because of the awkwardness for both of you if they tell you they are on a GLP-1. This awkwardness probably stems from people judging because they think it is “cheating”… kind of like steroids in the past… FYI, feel free to come up to me and ask if I am on steriods.. I will take it as a HUGE compliment. haha (By the way, this has never happened as you could imagine. ha).
Now before you judge too much, hear me out here. Here is my take:
I think you need to weigh the risk-reward.. or you can say is the juice worth the squeeze? See what I did there? 🙂
These drugs work. I don’t think you can argue that. This is probably the only drug that we have ever had for weightloss that works this well for that purpose.
The flip side of this is the side effects. I personally know a lot of people (some are my clients) who have had stomach and other medical issues from them. Some of these people have said they take the meds, then they feel awful for a few days. So they can’t do anything for a few days after.
The vast majority of people will at minimum see a large amount of muscle mass lost, which is not good! This muscle mass keeps you strong, healthy, helps with metabolism, can help with bonedensity, and more.
So, why would someone want to take something that will most likely make them feel awful for a few days a week, lose muscle mass, decrease bone density, and experience other medical issues?
This is where the risk-reward comes in..
What if this person is morbidly obese and on track to have major health implications? What if this person has a strong family history of heart disease and they are on track to repeat history? What if the doc says “Hey, we don’t have time to waste.. if you don’t lose a lot of weight right now, then…..”?
Maybe the juice is worth the squeeze for these people. Maybe they have to do something dramatic ASAP or else, it could be too late.
For those who want to take the drug for vanity reasons, that’s your choice. Personally, I think there are safer options for you. But again, we all have our own motives for why we do what we do.
Either way, whether it’s medical reasons or you just want to look better, I do believe there are steps you MUST be taking while on the drug to help combat the muscle loss and increase your chances on maintaining if you ever/hopefully come off the drug.
I’ll cover these steps in my next email… so stayed tuned!
p.s. If you need help with no judgement, feel free to reach out. My job is not to tell you if you are right or wrong, my job is to coach you through this so you can be safe and healthy.
