My wife might kill me for putting this info out there, but here we go anyways… 🙂
The Armstrong household can be a pretty stressful. With running a business, her in a somewhat high stress career as a Physician Assistant in the Urgent Care, crazy sports schedules, crazy kids, coaching sports, and more, we live a pretty chaotic life.
At the ripe ole age of 42, Steph is no spring chicken anymore. :). High stress life and hormones can wear ya down.
Of course she is not overweight. She has been trying to lean out a little though. Over the last year or so, she tried eating healthier, felt like she was eatling less, tried focusing on her protein, stayed consistent with her workouts. But her weight stayed the same.
So, like most others, she was thinking it was hormones. She was frustruated and felt defeated.
I then recommended that she tracked all of her calories. Everything! The good days and the bad days. Weigh and measure.
As she was tracking different foods, she would make comments like “I didn’t realize there are X amount of calories in X food?! That’s crazy!” Or “If I’m going to staying under my calorie limit, I can only have X amount of X!”
After a week of tracking, she was down. a couple pounds.
After a few weeks of tracking, she was shocked to see that she was down about 7 pounds!
What was holding her back from losing weight?
She was eating too much. Some of the foods, while being “healthy” foods, still had a high amount of caloires. When we would eat out, those calories add up really fast.
All she needed to do was ACCURATELY track ALL the food she was eating. Then figure out the caloried deficit.
I know it’s easy to get caught up in the hype of everything being hormonal, and I’m not down playing the hormonal responses to the human body changing, but try to look at all of the things we can control naturally before we just jump straight to the cause being hormones.
Let me know if you have any questions or comments on this.
Have a great day!
