If you are not seeing results, you are likely missing one or more of our 5 Pillars of health and fitness.

The picture shows our 5 pillars of health and fitness. Regardless of what your goals are, these 5 pillars are a must.

We can tweak each one a little bit based on highly specific goals, but these are a minimum for all of us that are looking for weightloss, general health, performance, or just to look better with our shirts off.

When I sit down with a client who isn’t seeing results, this is where I start. I pull out these 5 pillars and see what we are coming up short.

Then, we troubleshoot to see how we can improve that pillar.

After we troubleshoot, we draw up a plan of action to tackle that pillar.

Here is an example:

Client- I’m too tired in the morning to get up to workout.

Me- Ok. How much sleep are you getting on average each night?

Client- About 5 and a half.

Me- Ok. This is why you are so tired. It’s not a motivation issue. Your body is screaming for more sleep. We need to get at least 7 hours. What time are you wanting to get up in the morning?

Client- 5a so I can do the 530a class. But, it’s impossible because I am sooo tired!

Me- So, you need to get to be sleeping by 9p. When we sleep at night, we typically wake up for about an hour and you don’t realize it, so when we need 7 hours, we actually need to fall asleep 8 hours prior to waking up. What does your nighttime routune look like?

Client- I get home from my kids sports around 8p. We eat dinner, watch tv, then I go to bed at 930, but I am usually scrolling on my phone until 1030 or so.

Me- Ok. So, maybe we can take food with us to sports. You can eat dinner while you are there or on the way home. Then when you get home, we start dimming the lights and read a book. At 9p, you are now tired and ready for bed. When you go to bed, there is no phone and no lights. It’s bedtime.

Client- Deal! I can do that!

Whattever it is that you are struggling with, don’t settle for “this is just how it has to be”.

Keep troubleshooting until you find something that works for you. Your health is too important to give up on.
